The Challenge
With a 100-year legacy of facilitating a better and more sustainable world, our client wanted to continue state-of-the-art infrastructure and unmatched delivery capabilities in alignment with its reputation.
The goal was to address challenges impacting operational efficiency and service excellence, such as:
- Machine failures and underutilized assets leading to production delays and increased costs
- Operational inefficiencies and administrative errors impacting overall productivity
- Lack of real-time visibility into machine performance and asset health

The Objective
Having partnered with HCLTech for over three decades, the client extended its collaboration in 2014 to include a continuous, end-to-end digital transformation of its South Asian GCCs, production plants and corporate offices.
The Solution
HCLTech implemented a multi-phased approach that addressed the client’s needs for modernization, connectivity and efficiency. The solutions were tailored to deliver tangible outcomes, minimize risks and ensure smooth and effective operations.
Over the span of a decade, HCLTech deployed a range of impactful technological upgrades to future-proof the client’s GCCs and operations, including:
- Digitization of legacy equipment: Upgraded mechanical and semi-electronic machines and other assets lacking connectivity capabilities and integrated them into the cloud-based ecosystem for centralized management.
- Telematics data collection: Implemented a telematics system for heavy machinery, including truck loaders and miners, to capture real-time operational data. Visualized through a robust cloud-based dashboard, this data provides actionable insights into equipment performance and operational efficiency.
- Data visualization application: Created custom dashboards that aggregate and represent telematics data through interactive charts and modules, offering the client complete visibility into its assets and operational environment, empowering informed decision-making.
- Machine inspection system: Enhanced the client's materials management solution to track the location and movement of various machinery and materials, ensuring optimal utilization. This feature also included:
- Alert monitoring system: Developed a centralized, real-time alert monitoring system to notify the concerned personnel about the health and performance of all assets, including long-lasting legacy assets.
- Preventive maintenance module: We introduced a preventive maintenance module and migrated the machine inspection system from Salesforce to Azure, enabling timely repairs and service to maximize asset longevity.
- Dealer Service portal: Revamped the architecture of the existing dealer services portal on the HCLTech eCommerce platform to support over two million assets, ensuring seamless dealer interactions and a superior customer experience.
